Digital Arts Film and Television proudly announces its
2025 Michigan Media Educator of the Year
Stephany Harbison
Romeo High School
During my time in her class, she gave me guidance and knowledge on how to improve and expand my filmmaking skills. She took me and my dreams very seriously, as she did for each student who walked into her classroom. She has opened many doors for me including internships, further education opportunities, and so much more. I truly would not be where I am today without her.

DAFT congratulates Stephany Slongo Harbison of Romeo High School who will be honored as Michigan's 2025 Media Educator of the Year at the 57th Michigan Student Film Festival at the DIA’s historic Detroit Film Theatre on Saturday April 26, 2025 at both the 10 AM K-8 and the 12:30 PM High School awards.
She has grown the Romeo's media program into a standard of excellence known across the state for its unique balance of journalism, narrative filmmaking and community outreach.
Stephany’s tireless creativity, energy and sense of fun has also made her a valuable member of the DAFT family behind the scenes at our festivals, media teacher and student symposia, trivia night fundraisers and for her guidance in DAFT’s mission to serve any student and teacher of Michigan’s schools to develop their own Career Tech Educational and curricular programming. Her exemplary work ethic has transferred itself importantly to her many graduates who use skills from her program in all walks of life–far beyond holding a camera.
Congratulations Stephany for this well-deserved honor and thank you!
