“Portraits of Democracy” Workshops at the DIA – October 2018 – DAFT and Scorsese’s Film Foundation

Following a successful pilot a few years ago the Film Foundation has developed a much-expanded curriculum that uses movies to teach concepts in American history and culture. Detroit was selected as one of three cities for the rollout where the DIA will be the host for workshop and film screenings on October 2nd and 3rd, 2018.

The free professional development workshop provided a full range of materials to participants along with evening film screenings that were also free and open to the public. The themes of the new materials are Labor, Immigration and Civil Rights. This workshop was especially valuable to any engaged teacher of history, civics, social studies, media production or language arts for middle and high school students.
